On June 14, 2025, a 55-year-old man named Nurul Islam was arrested for the rape of a 12-year-old girl in a horrible incident that has shook Siliguri, West Bengal.
Only after the young victim was discovered to be pregnant did the horrific crime—which had taken place about four months earlier—come to light, revealing the horrific ordeal she had endured in silence.
According to reports, the victim's family trusted Nurul Islam, a Siliguri resident, to entice the minor to his house under false pretenses. There, he sexually assaulted her and tried to buy her silence with threats and a meager ₹100. Because she was too scared and traumatized to tell her family about the incident, the young girl kept it a secret.
After several months, the girl's family started to observe concerning changes in her physical and behavioral state. They went to the doctor out of concern, and after an examination, the 12-year-old was found to be pregnant.
The family was shocked and they asked the child to tell her story. She described the attack as well as named Nurul Islam as the culprit.
The family quickly lodged a complaint with the local police station on June 6, 2025. Nurul Islam left Siliguri after hearing the complaint in an effort to avoid being detained. But using the location data from his mobile phone, the police found him and arrested him in Ghokshadanga, Cooch Behar.
