In a tragic turn of events, the body of 26-year-old Rosmita Hojai, a resident of Hojai village in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, was discovered on the banks of a river in Uttarakhand’s Pauri Garhwal district. Rosmita had been missing since June 5, when she was en route to Delhi for a Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examination.

Authorities recovered Rosmita’s lifeless body on Tuesday morning. Preliminary investigations suggest that she may have taken her own life, reportedly due to distress over her performance in the civil services examinations.

Following the discovery, two individuals—Hemant Sharma of Mohindergarh, Delhi, and Pankaj Kokar of Rohtak, Haryana—were detained for questioning. The duo had previously reported Rosmita’s disappearance at Shivpuri Police Station, claiming she was swept away by the river. Authorities are now examining their statements in light of the new developments.

Rosmita’s family expressed shock and disbelief over her sudden death. Her mother mentioned that during their last conversation on June 5, Rosmita had mentioned returning by train—a statement that seemed unusual and concerning. The family had suspected she might have been under duress and had initiated efforts to trace her whereabouts.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extended his condolences to the grieving family and assured them of all possible support in tracing Rosmita. Authorities in both Assam and Uttarakhand are coordinating their efforts as the investigation progresses.

The untimely death of Rosmita Hojai has sent shockwaves through her community and beyond. As investigations continue, the authorities are working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding her tragic demise. The cooperation between state agencies underscores the commitment to seeking justice and providing closure to the bereaved family.
