In a disturbing incident that has sparked communal tensions and widespread condemnation, five individuals have been arrested in Assam’s Goalpara district for allegedly throwing beef outside a Hindu temple premises. The accused have been identified as Bodir Ali (57), Hazarat Ali (58), Tara Mia (36), Shajamal Mia (42), and Jahangir Alom (32).
The incident came to light when temple visitors noticed pieces of meat lying near the entrance early one morning. The sight sparked concern and outrage among the local Hindu community, leading to calls for immediate action.
Local authorities responded quickly. After reviewing nearby CCTV footage and gathering inputs from the community, police were able to track down and arrest the accused within two days. The meat has been sent for forensic testing to confirm if it was indeed beef.
Superintendent of Police Rakesh Reddy addressed the media, saying, “This is a very sensitive issue, and we are handling it with utmost care. We’ve taken swift action to prevent any communal unrest. We appeal to everyone to remain calm and not fall prey to misinformation.”
Community leaders have also urged residents to maintain peace and let the law take its course. Extra security has been deployed in the area as a precaution.
The motive behind the act is still under investigation. Police have not ruled out the possibility of deliberate provocation aimed at disturbing communal harmony.
As the case develops, residents hope that justice will be served swiftly and that the peace in the region will be restored.
