Over the past week, four disturbing incidents were reported in Dhubri, Hojai, Goalpara, and Sribhumi, where beef and its remains were deliberately thrown near and inside Hindu temples, clearly intended to provoke religious sentiments and disrupt peace in the region.
Despite the Assam Police’s swift action and arrest of several suspects, not a single arrested individual is Hindu. This raises serious questions over Gogoi’s politically charged narrative, especially when senior Congress leaders like Rakibul Hussain are calling for a fair probe and Pradyut Bordoloi has urged firm action against the culprits—regardless of community.
However, instead of standing with the victims and supporting law enforcement, Gaurav Gogoi seems to have taken on the role of a self-appointed judge, vilifying the Hindu community without evidence. His statement appears less like a call for justice and more like an attempt to play appeasement politics for vote bank gains.
A Disturbing Pattern
These incidents were not isolated. The pattern—targeting sacred spaces of one religion with acts intended to incite hatred—strongly suggests a planned conspiracy. Yet, Gogoi’s comments do not question the intention behind these crimes. Rather, he diverts attention by blaming the victims’ own community.
