Philadelphia, June 18, 2025 - Despite a late red card, Manchester City defeated Wydad AC 2-0 at Lincoln Financial Field to kick off their FIFA Club World Cup campaign. The deciding goals were scored by Jeremy Doku and Phil Foden.

Manchester City's player Nordmenn Erling Haaland

After Doku's cross resulted in a Savinho shot that goalie El Mehdi Benabid parried, Foden finished a rebound to open the scoring in the second minute. In the 42nd minute, Doku headed into Foden's corner to double the lead. Nordin Amrabat and Thembinkosi Lorch gave Wydad chances in response, but Nathan Ake and Vitor Reis held firm, and Ederson saved a Lorch effort.

Pep Guardiola substituted Oscar Bobb, Rodri, and Erling Haaland in the second half. Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders, who were recently signed, were excellent; Cherki even hit the post. There was drama.

Scoreline remains~

Goals: Jeremy Doku (42'), Phil Foden (2')
Josko Gvardiol was sent off (88').
