Tragedy at B.J. Medical College: Plane Crash Kills Medical Students in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad | June 12, 2025 — What began as a routine afternoon on the B.J. Medical College campus turned into a scene of horror and grief, as Air India Flight AI171 crashed into the college’s hostel complex, claiming the lives of several young medical students and injuring dozens more.

According to official reports, at least five medical students have died, and over 60 others were injured, with 41 currently in critical condition at nearby hospitals. The aircraft, bound for London with 242 passengers, lost altitude shortly after takeoff and collided directly with one of the hostel buildings near the runway perimeter.

Chaos on Campus

The impact destroyed large sections of the hostel, with rooms collapsing on students who were resting, studying, or attending online classes at the time. Witnesses describe scenes of blood, fire, and debris — once a quiet academic space now reduced to rubble.

“We heard a deafening sound, and within seconds everything shook and went dark, said a third-year student who narrowly escaped. “People were screaming… I saw my roommate unconscious under a broken wall."

Most of the deceased students were in their early 20s, enrolled in MBBS and nursing programs. For many, it was their first time living away from home, pursuing dreams of becoming doctors to serve their communities.

“We lost some of the brightest minds in our institution,” said a senior faculty member, holding back tears. “Their families sent them here to build a future. Today we send some of them back in coffins.”

In a nation where every young doctor is a ray of hope, the loss of these students is a wound that will take years to heal. Today, India doesn’t just mourn a crash — it mourns the loss of futures that were never lived.

🕊️ May the departed souls rest in peace.
